Amy,
It’s been over six years since that fateful day in May. But I thought it was important to write. I harbor no anger, and I hold no grudge. You did what you thought was best under the circumstances. But that’s how the devil works. He exploits our ignorance. When we lack knowledge and understanding, we tend to follow the lead of others. If we don’t know the direction we need to travel, the tide just carries us down the path of least resistance.
Amy, I hope it concerns you, as much as it does me, that our children are growing up without a father. Overwhelmingly, children without a father are in a higher risk of abuse, their school grades plummet, and teenage pregnancies increase. In addition, there’s also a direct correlation between absent fathers and crime. This road of child abuse, sexual immorality, and crime is not the direction that any loving parent would travel with their children. However, in today’s culture, it’s the broad road – the path of least resistance.
All to often, mothers are more willing to travel that destructive path because they believe it’s a much safer alternative to fatherhood. Since we’re all human and nobody’s perfect, it’s easy to find fault with the father, and then amplify his fault to make him appear dangerous. But revenge never satisfies. If you harm a person that you dislike, the more you’ll dislike him. The more you dislike him, the more you’ll harm him. It’s a cycle that never ends, because revenge doesn’t heal wounds. Revenge may injure the one who’s been targeted, but it always harms the person who perpetrates it.
Genuine healing begins with forgiveness. Amy, I don’t wish any misfortune to fall upon you. I would truly love for you to know the Saviour that I know. Christ can give you a new heart if you ask and a peace that passes all understanding. I have more understanding now than I did six years ago. I’ve since published a book that’s a real eye-opener. It exposes the Family Court and child support mechanisms for who they really are and what they really do. I would be honored to send you a complementary copy. Just write back and let me know that you would like one.
In Christ’s Love,
Toby
