Author Toby Strebe is the son of a retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant. He was born at RAF Lakenheath, England, but attended preschool in Georgia, started kindergarten in Greece, first grade in Oklahoma, and second grade in Ohio… Needless to say, school turned out to be an academic struggle.
But being a military kid also had its perks. As a six-year old, Toby got to climb on the pillars in ancient Corinth, Greece. A year later, his father took him to Disneyland in California. On a cross-country drive, he enjoyed a tour through Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico. And Toby also explored Epcot Center and Busch Gardens in Florida with his cousin.
In 2001, Toby enlisted in the United States Army and served a three-year term. He re-enlisted in the summer of 2009. Between his first and second enlistment, he got married and had three children.
During his total time in the service, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Manhattan Christian College. He spent two years in a war zone, and one in Korea. To celebrate special days with his wife and daughters and stay in touch, he communicated with them on a regular basis through Skype.
In 2014, his wife was hospitalized for three weeks in a behavioral health unit. The Army promptly authorized emergency leave for him to be with his family and care for his children. But unfortunately, he couldn’t stay on leave indefinitely, and at this point his wife could barely care for herself, let alone the children. So towards the end of the year, he opted to separate from the military and was honorably discharged. He needed to be there for his family.
However, his wife’s mental condition deteriorated. And in 2016, she divorced him and abducted his children. Since then, he’s shifted his focus towards defending freedom and exercising individual responsibility.
